2. Data we process and why
| Data | When | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Location (latitude, longitude, accuracy) | Once, at the moment of an alert: when the battery reaches a critical level, with the emergency button, or when you do not tap “I've arrived” on a trip; also while the app is closed (in the background). | Sending your emergency contacts an SMS with a Google Maps link and street address |
| Location — family sharing (optional) | Only if you turn it on on the Family screen: at the interval you choose (15 min, 30 min or 1 hour) and when a paired parent asks; also while the app is closed. While on, the notification always says so and you are notified of every request; automatic sharing pauses at 20% battery and below. You can turn it off at any time. | Showing your last location to your paired parents on their Family screen |
| Trip details (arrival time, optional note) | When you start a trip | Alerting your contacts if you do not arrive, showing the trip to paired parents |
| Health note (optional, e.g. blood type) | When you enter it. Stored on your phone only, never sent to our servers. | Added only to emergency and trip SMS |
| Battery level and charging state | Continuously on the device; to the cloud at most once a minute | Running the alert rules, showing status to paired parents |
| Your name (optional) | When you enter it | Showing who the SMS is from |
| Emergency contacts' names and phone numbers | When you add them | Sending the alert SMS |
| Alert history (time, reason, delivery status) | With each alert | Showing the history to you and paired parents |
| Account data: e-mail address; your Google account name if you sign in with Google (your password never reaches us; it is kept by Google/Firebase) | At sign-up / sign-in | Signing in, moving your settings to a new phone, verifying deletion requests |
| Install ID and phone manufacturer | At sign-in | Knowing which phone the account is active on (one phone at a time) |
Location and battery data are also collected while the app is closed; this is the core function of the app and only happens with your permission. You can turn off location permission and protection at any time.
2a. SMS permission (SEND_SMS)
Alerts are sent as SMS from your phone's own line, with your number. This permission is used only for emergencies: (1) when the battery drops to the critical level you set (at most 20%), (2) when you press the emergency button and do not cancel the countdown, (3) when, on a trip, you do not tap “I've arrived” by the arrival time and the 2 minutes after it. Within 24 hours after one of these alerts, and only when you tap it, you can send the same people one “I'm safe” message. Family location sharing and the charge reminder do not use SMS (the charge reminder is only a notification on your phone). The app does not read SMS, does not access incoming messages and does not become the default SMS app; it never sends advertising, marketing or periodic SMS. Messages do not pass through any third-party SMS server.
3. Legal basis
Your consent and the performance of the service you requested (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and (b); KVKK Art. 5). You are also informed and asked for consent on the in-app permission screens.
4. Service providers and sharing
- Google Firebase (database and authentication) — database region: Europe (europe-west1).
- Your mobile carrier — alert SMS messages are sent from your phone's own line, with your number. SMS charges are billed by your carrier under your plan; LastDrop does not pass message content to any SMS company.
- Google Play services (Android's geocoding service) — at alert time the location's coordinates are sent to Google to look up the street address added to the SMS.
- OpenStreetMap — when the parent app shows the last-location map, map tiles are downloaded from OpenStreetMap servers (only the area shown).
- Devices you paired as parents (with your consent, using a pairing code).
Your data is not shared with anyone else, and no advertising SDKs are used.
5. Retention
- Alert history: deleted after 90 days (the app removes older records each time it opens).
- Device settings, contacts and last location: until you delete them.
- "Delete my account" permanently deletes your account and all your data immediately.
6. Children
LastDrop is a family safety tool that parents can install on their child's phone. Installing it on the device of a child under 13 must be done by, and with the consent of, a parent or legal guardian. The app shows no ads to children and sells no data.
7. About emergency contacts
We process the numbers of the people you add only to send them alerts. We recommend telling them that you use LastDrop and that they may receive alerts from you.
8. Security
All communication is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Database access is protected by rules that allow only the account owner and paired parents. Parent pairing codes are single-use and valid for 10 minutes. Alert SMS messages go only to the contacts you added, with text generated by the app.
9. Your rights and deleting your data
To access, correct or delete your data, or to object to processing:
- In the app: Home › Account › Delete my account (immediate and permanent; for security you are asked to confirm your password or Google account once more).
- If you no longer have the app: account deletion request.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page and important changes are announced in the app.
